Bijzonder natuurverschijnsel: IJspannenkoeken! ‘Prachtig gezicht’

Mathilde te Lintelo kwam zondagmorgen vroeg tijdens een wandeling een zeldzame natuurverschijnsel tegen. IJspannenkoeken, wist ze meteen over de ijscirkels die ze in het water van het riviertje bij haar woonplaats voorbij zag drijven.

Te Lintelo verklaart het ontstaan van de ijspannenkoeken, cirkels met een doorsnee van ongeveer tien centimeter, op de bewuste plek vooral door de aanwezigheid van de stuw in het riviertje. Die bevindt zich niet ver van de locatie waar ze de pannenkoeken fotografeerde en waarvan ze de beelden bij thuiskomst op Facebook plaatste. „Door die stuw ontstaat schuimend water dat bij vorst en door de stroming voor deze cirkels zorgt. Echt mooi om te zien”

IJpannenkoeken komen in de poolgebieden veel voor, maar zijn in het noorden van Europa tamelijk zeldzaam, weet Weer.nl. De ijscirkels ontstaan als kleine ijsdeeltjes bij elkaar komen en tegen elkaar aan botsen. De meteorologische website omschreef het bijzondere natuurfenomeen als het ‘toetje van de vorst van de afgelopen dagen’.

(CNN)An investment group of Swedish retail giant Ikea has acquired forestland in southeast Georgia to protect the land and its diverse ecosystems from development.

The Ingka Group, which owns and operates most Ikea stores, purchased 10,840 acres of land near the Altamaha River Basin, the company announced on January 14.

"We truly believe responsible forest management is possible and we see that a large part of our responsibility towards the land we own -- and by extension the planet -- is to restore forests and plant more than we harvest," Ingka Investments managing director Krister Mattsson told CNN.
