When we study human beings, we see that everything within them makes demands – the stomach asks for food; the ears ask for sounds; the eyes ask for light and colour; and the mouth, nose, and sexual organs all ask for something too. So, the whole body makes demands, which is wonderful, marvellous and natural. But there must be a head in charge of all these demands to see if it can satisfy them, otherwise there will be chaos. People will eat and drink too much or not enough, they will overexpose themselves to heat or cold; they will not hear or see the dangers. So, it is good that the body clamours for what it needs, but only as long as the head is there to guide it, and decide when to accept, when to refuse and how much to give. Demands and requests come from all sides, but the head must always be there, in order to distribute everything according to divine rules and proportions.

Get into the habit of saying ‘thank you’. Yes, give thanks every minute of the day, and in every circumstance. Never stop giving thanks, even in the midst of difficulties, sorrow and suffering, for this neutralizes the poisons and heals the wounds caused by these negative states – nothing can resist gratitude. So, give thanks until you feel that everything that happens to you is for your own good. From now on, say, ‘Thank you, Lord, thank you, Lord’. Give thanks for what you do have, but also for what you do not have; for the things that delight you and for those that make you suffer. This is how you will keep the flame of life burning within you. I see that you are thinking, ‘Is that all there is to it?’ Yes, that is all, but practice this method and you will see the results.

Dank je voor het bijzondere bericht over de Serviër uit Novi Sad.

Verdrietig ook. En niet gemakkelijk om aan te werken.

Leed met leed …  Ja, daar is de wetmatige aantrekking van het gelijkgeaarde ook werkzaam… Het ‘soort zoekt soort’ principe.

Als zo iemand een tijdlang in een lichte omgeving gaat wonen, dan kan hij het misschien makkelijker de baas worden.
